Reviews have been favorable for the USA Network's new show White Collar. White Collar tells the "Catch Me If You Can"-like story of a white-collar criminal who partners with the FBI to help them solve crimes. The series stars Matthew Bomer, Tiffani Thiessen, Willie Garson, Tim DeKay and Diahann Carrol. The website "My Take On TV" visited the New York set for an exclusive interview with the some of the cast and crew from the show.

When "My Take On TV" asked what were some elements that set the show apart from other crime dramas on currently on TV, Bomer said, "Well, I think—I always say I think before I say—please cut that out. [laughs]  Because it’s just—I should just say it.  The signature of USA Network is, characters welcome.  So, first and foremost, you’re gong to get all the great procedural stuff.  It’s really intelligently written.  We’re—I’m no fool, I know this is a writer’s medium.  You can put the biggest stars on the TV screen, but if the writing’s not there, the shows aren’t going to last and we’re so blessed to have Jeff Easton at the helm.  Because these scripts are really smart and fun and unique.  The White Collar world is unique, hasn’t really been completely explored yet and so you’re going to get all the fun procedural stuff, but at the same time, there’s going to be a lot of character elements that come into play as well.  That keep it light and fun and sometimes serious.  So, you do get more back story elements and a lot of interplay, fun interplay between characters that you might not get on a show that’s straight procedural."

Tina Fey, Usher, Whoopi Goldberg, Kristen Chenoweth Chosen as Peanuts Characters Look-A-Like As Peanuts Announces 60th Anniversary Look-A-Like Contest

Peanuts, who introduced pop culture icons, Charlie Brown and Snoopy, announced the launch of its first-ever PEANUTS 60th Anniversary Photo Look-A-Like Contest, which will benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of America (

Peanuts fans of all ages are invited to submit photos of themselves or their children looking like one of these Peanuts characters: Charlie Brown, Snoopy, Lucy, Linus, Sally, Schroeder, Franklin, Peppermint Patty, Marcie or Pigpen, or one of Snoopy’s classic alter-egos, Joe Cool or the World War I Flying Ace. Submissions will be accepted through November 3.

Finalists, selected by a panel of celebrity judges, will be posted on November 11. The public will then be able to vote for their favorite finalist through November 30. The winners will be announced in December.

The celebrity judges include Jill Schulz, daughter of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz; country music legends Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood; “Supernanny” Jo Frost; “America’s Next Top Model” judge and fashion photographer Nigel Barker; and Victoria Recaño, co-anchor of KTLA 5 News at 6 and KTLA 5 News at 10.

“Throughout the years, the Peanuts gang has given people a sense of belonging—we can all identify with one or more of the characters and their life lessons,” says Jill Schulz. “This contest gives participants a chance to express their ‘inner Snoopy,’ so to speak, and I’m really looking forward to reviewing all the pictures and stories from our Peanuts fans around the country.”

The grand-prize winner will receive an all-expenses-paid family adventure for four to Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio (home to Planet Snoopy). Other prizes include a collection of Warner Home Video PEANUTS DVDs and a Peanuts holiday tree and ornament collection from Hallmark Gold Crown.

The Stars Come Out for Peanuts

Offering inspiration to contest entrants (including caption and costume ideas)—and amusement to everyone who visits the contest website—a Celebrity Look-A-Like Gallery features film, television, music and sports stars who have an uncanny similarity to a Peanuts character…whether in looks, talent or attitude! The famous Look-a-Likes were chosen by the Peanuts team for their “resemblance” to a particular character, and all the stars were delighted to participate.

“I wasn't entirely by surprised when I learned that the Peanuts team had selected me as their Charlie Brown look-alike, since the comparison had been made several times before,” says Simon Pegg, (“Star Trek,” “Shaun of the Dead”). “I even have a Charlie Brown yellow t-shirt with black zig zags, bought for me by a friend who was of the same opinion. Now I guess it's official. Word had come from the very top and who am I to argue. I look like Charlie Brown. Good Grief.”

The Celebrity Look-a-Likes are:

Gerard Butler Takes Hilarious Turn As Host of SNL

Gerard Butler channeled his inner Hugh Jackson to host Saturday Night Live last night. The versatile actor, who has starred in every genre in movies from romantic comedy, to action films and musicals, was right at home in front of the live New York audience.

The first time host added funny man to his resume. In his opening monologue, he reminded us of his starring role in "The Phantom Of The Opera" with a sketch of him singing the signature "Music of The Night". As he sang, a group of assassins tried to kill him, including the Phantom's Christine played by Kristen Wiig.

Beauty & The Beast:

Butler held an impressive American accent for some of his sketches but spoke in his native Scottish tongue during a segment from Weekend Update in which Seth Meyers translated for the US audience--"I slept with a hooker last night", Butler told his mother watching at home through Meyers.

Other memorable sketches of the night were a spoof of "300" in which Butler, The General,
addressed his troops about his army's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy. In it, he was surprised to find out that all of his soldiers were gay and Butler was as the hilarious "White Pete" in a sketch in which, Kenan Thompson hosts a talk show called called "What's Up, What's That" where he sings the opening theme song that never seems to end as guests (including surprise guest James Franco) look on, wondering if they will ever be interviewed. "White Pete" comes out and sings an addition to the theme song. Butler did his best soul crooner impersonation as "Pete" wondered "What's Up, What's That" in song.

International superstar Shakira was the musical act, singing two electrifying songs, including her hit song "She Wolf" and "Did It Again".

Trying out a new concept, the show had only one sponsor Bud Light Golden Wheat which allowed them to show limited commercials in favor of showing clips throughout the show of some of SNL's funniest moments and outtakes from the dress rehearsals with alums, Amy Poehler, Tim Meadows, Chris Rock, and Chris Parnell.

The audience stayed energized throughout the 90 minute show which proved to be one of the funniest shows of Season 35 thus far.

The show will show repeats for the next two weeks before returning with a new show on November 7 with Taylor Swift pulling double duty as  host and musical guest.

AFI Film Festival Hits Los Angeles October 30-November 7

"THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX", directed by Wes Anderson and starring Jason Schwartzman is scheduled to open the AFI FEST 2009. The film is a stop-motion animated feature which will be screened at the festival's opening night at the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The film also stars the voices of  George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Jason Schwartzman, Bill Murray, Wally Wolodarsky, Eric Anderson, Michael Gambon, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson and Jarvis Cocker.

The Weinstein Company's “A SINGLE MAN” has been selected as the closing night gala presentation.  Sony Pictures Classics’ "THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS" has been selected as AFI FEST’s Centerpiece Screening Gala presentation. The film will make its US Premiere at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre on Monday, November 2, 2009.

"A SINGLE MAN" features the directorial debut of fashion designer Tom Ford from his script adaptation of Christopher Isherwood’s acclaimed novel. The film follows a day in the life of a gay British college professor in Los Angeles as he attempts to cope with the death of his partner. Ford’s work helming the project and Colin Firth’s lead performance in the film have received critical acclaim following screenings at the Venice and Toronto film festivals. Julianne Moore, Matthew Goode and Ginnifer Goodwin also star in the film. The Weinstein Company release is due in theaters on December 11. Ford, Firth and Moore are scheduled to attend.

“It is exciting to champion a talented artist like Tom Ford as he moves beyond the boundaries of one medium into another. In "A SINGLE MAN", he delivers an elegant and beautiful personal story that will resonate with all audience members“ said AFI FEST Artistic Director Rose Kuo.

The Centerpiece Screening Gala presentation features the latest work by director Terry Gilliam. "THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR. PARNASSUS" follows the leader of a traveling theater troupe who, having made a deal with the devil, takes audience members through a magical mirror to explore their imaginations. The film stars Christopher Plummer, Tom Waits, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell and Heath Ledger in his final role. The Sony Pictures Classics release is due in theaters stateside on December 25. Gilliam and Plummer are scheduled to attend.
“The mind-altering, looking-glass world that Terry Gilliam creates in "IMAGINARIUM" notes Director of Programming Robert Koehler, “is like a model for his ideal cinema, in which anything can happen and all rules are broken. If audiences thought that "THE DARK KNIGHT" was their last glimpse of Heath Ledger, then what Ledger brings to Gilliam’s fantasy-adventure will surprise them.”

AFI FEST has selected actors Christopher Plummer and Viggo Mortensen to receive tributes at this year’s Festival. Sponsored by the Skirball Cultural Center, Plummer’s tribute event will precede the screening of his film THE LAST STATION on Tuesday, November 3. Mortensen’s tribute will precede the US Premiere of the film THE ROAD on Wednesday, November 4. Both Tributes will take place at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

One of the world’s most respected actors, Plummer has won two Tony Awards (for CYRANO and BARRYMORE), three Drama Desk Awards, the National Arts Club Medal and two Emmys.

"THE ROAD" is adapted from the acclaimed novel by Cormac McCarthy.  The film stars Mortensen as a father making his way with his young son across the scorched landscape of a post-apocalyptic world. Directed by John Hillcoat from a script by Joe Penhall, the film also stars Charlize Theron, Robert Duvall, Guy Pearce and Molly Parker. The Weinstein Company release is due in theaters November 25.  Mortensen, Hillcoat and Theron are scheduled to attend.

Mortensen’s career highlights include notable films roles in "THE LORD OF THE RINGS" TRILOGIES and, "EASTERN PROMISES" for which he received Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations.

“Viggo Mortensen and Christopher Plummer are two actors and film artists of the highest order,” said Kuo. “They share that rare trait of being looked up to by audiences and film fans around the world as well as being greatly respected by their peers.”

Other highlights among the complete film schedule announced today include Jonathan Demme’s music documentary "NEIL YOUNG TRUNK SHOW" (with Demme and Young confirmed to attend) and the screening of two films connected by legendary art director and longtime AFI Conservatory Distinguished Lecturer Robert Boyle, who turned 100 on October 10. Those films are AFI Conservatory Alumnus Daniel Raim’s (Production Design ’99) documentary SOMETHING’S GONNA LIVE and Alfred Hitchcock’s classic NORTH BY NORTHWEST, celebrating its 50th anniversary this year.

On Monday, November 2, AFI FEST, in conjunction with Warner Home Video will present a special screening of Hitchcock’s NORTH BY NORTHWEST. The first Hitchcock film to be released on Blu-ray, the film has been restored and remastered for its 50th anniversary. As part of the Gala event, director William Friedkin will attend to moderate a Q&A with Boyle and the film’s stars Eva Marie Saint and Martin Landau.

AFI FEST continues its unique and successful association with the American Film Market with 23 of the features in official selection at AFI FEST represented by distributors at AFM, unfolding concurrently with AFI FEST from November 4–November 11.

AFI FEST 2009’s overall lineup will showcase 67 features (54 narrative, 13 documentary) and 27 shorts for a total of 94 films from 32 countries.

The Festival is headquartered at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. All screenings from October 30–November 5 will take place at the Grauman’s Chinese and Mann Chinese 6 theaters in Hollywood with the final two days of the Festival (November 6-7) screening at the Laemmle’s Monica 4-plex in Santa Monica.
