Independent Spirit Awards: '12 Years a Slave' lead nominations

The 2014 Independent Spirit Awards were announced. It is the first indication of which films will be recognized as the best of the year. The ceremony will be held March 1 in Santa Monica. Patton Oswalt serves as host.

Trailer: 'Gimme Shelter' starring Vanessa Hudgens

Vanessa Hudgens appears in the new movie, "Gimme Shelter" heading to VOD in January 2014. Based on true events, the movie centers on the courageous story of Agnes “Apple” Bailey (Vanessa Hudgens), a pregnant, homeless teenager who is forced to flee her abusive mother (Rosario Dawson). Turned away by her Wall Street father (Brendan Fraser), Apple meets a compassionate stranger (James Earl Jones), who ultimately leads her to salvation and unprecedented support in a suburban shelter for homeless teenagers. With gained confidence, and the warmth of her new home, Apple breaks from her inhibiting past, embracing the future with clarity and hope.
 
Written and directed by Ronald Krauss, "Gimme Shelter" opens in theatres across the country on January 24, 2014.

Taylor Swift, Justin Timberlake win big at 2013 American Music Awards

It was an eclectic night at this year’s American Music Awards which were held in Los Angeles over the weekend.  International rapper, Pitbull hosted the night which the night which was a mix of everything from Florida Georgia Line singing with Nelly, to Lady Gaga and R. Kelly recreating the Oval Office in a rendition of Marilyn Monroe and President Kennedy.

The show had something for everyone with everyone getting their share of the spotlight. Taylor Swift  took home the night’s big award, winning  Artist of the Year, beating out Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Justin  Timberlake and Macklemore  & Ryan Lewis. The Red singer also took home trophies for Favorite Country Album, Favorite Feale Artist Country, and Favorite Country Album.

"My lucky number is 13, and so far you guys have made 2013 the most magical year of my life so far," Swift said. "I cannot thank you enough. This validates that if you voted for this that we are heartbroken the same way and we fall in love the same way and we're happy the same way. And the fact that you would listen to my music means ... we're pretty much in it together, aren't we?"

Tonight’s performances were the talk of the show. After her Red Carpet entrance riding a human horse, Lady Gaga partnered with R Kelly for a live rendition of their duet “Do. The performance turned heads, keeping both the ABC sensors and Twitter busy with their ode to President John Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.

A toned down version of Wrecking Ball got tongues wagging as Miley Cyrus appeared solo on stage 
with a CGI lip-synching and crying cat as her only stage partner.

Other performances included country heart throb Luke Bryan, Florida Georgia Line with Nelly, Pitbull with Ke$ha, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Imagine Dragons, Jennifer Lopez honoring Cuban legend Celia Cruz and Katy Perry.

Rihanna was honored with the ICON Award presented to her by Bill Maher and her mother, Monica Braithwate.

American Music Awards: Pitbull tapped to host

Rapper Pitbull (born as Armando Christian Perez) will host the 2013 American Music Awards. "He's the perfect choice to celebrate the universal language of music," said AMA producer Larry Klein. The Dick Clark Productions airs live from LA Sunday, November 24 at 8p on ABC.

Performances for the night include Miley Cyrus and Imagine Dragons. The show will be broadcast live from the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 24th (8:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT) on ABC.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead this year with six (6) nominations. Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake follow with five (5) nominations each, while Florida Georgia Line, Rihanna and Robin Thicke collected four (4) nominations each. Additionally, Bruno Mars and Imagine Dragons were nominated for three (3) awards. 'Devious Maids': Edy Ganem talks playing Valentina on the hit Lifetime show

Autism Speaks held their annual Blue Jean Ball to raise awareness for the fight against autism. Dave Grohl headlined the night of performances that also included The White Buffalo with singer/songwriter Jake Smith, James Durbin and Rick Springfield. Maria Menounos and Michael Chiklis served as the event's hosts.

Edy Ganem of "Devious Maids" attended the event and spoke to us about its importance and also talked about playing Valentina.
