'The Ruff Ruffman Show' and 'Luna Around the World' head to PBS Kids

This fall the star of the classic series "Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman" returns in "The Ruff Ruffman Show," an all-new short-form animated digital series designed to help kids ages 4-8 learn core science concepts through videos, game-play and hands-on activities.

The PBS KIDS series stars canine host extraordinaire Ruff Ruffman, who, along with his assistants Blossom and Chet, answers questions from real kids, takes on challenges and learns the value of perseverance—all while modeling science inquiry skills.

The digital series will help kids learn based on individual performance and will introduce kids to STEM research. The learning experience is themed around four kid-friendly physical science topics: wearable science, sports science, kitchen chemistry and structures. Every character of "The Ruff Ruffman Show  is voiced by 5-time Emmy nominee Jim Conroy.

"The real goal of the project is the process of doing science," Senior Series Producer Marcy Gunther said at the Summer Press Tour Panel. "For kids to work through the process. 'How do you ask the question and what resource you use to find out. Science is a process, you may not get the answer right away and you need to be patient'."

Blossom show if you have differing opinions but have to learn to work together. She's there to help Ruff work things out. Ruff also relies on live action kids to work out his science problems.

Each unit has online games and hands-on activities that match it.
The series of 20 videos of segments of five.

Also launching on PBS is the animated series "Luna Around the World" in the fall of 2018. The series is produced by 9 Story Media Group and created by Emmy Award-winning animator, writer and artist Joe Murray (Rocko’s Modern Life, Camp Lazlo), debuts nationwide in fall 2018 on PBS stations, the new 24/7 PBS KIDS channel and PBS KIDS digital platforms. With a social studies curriculum, "Luna Around the World" will encourage kids ages 4-7 to explore and appreciate cultures from all over the world, and build global citizenship and social skills.

Each episode of "Luna Around the World" will include two 11-minute stories as well as interstitial content – including live-action segments about arts and cultures, and animated folktales and songs. The series is currently in production of 38 half-hour episodes and a one-hour special.

Anne Curry comes to PBS with 'We'll Meet Again'

This new six-part series, executive produced and reported by Ann Curry, explores some of the most dramatic events in history through the personal stories of those who lived through them.

The series will share human interest stories of people hoping to reconnect with someone significant in their lives.

PBS hosted a panel to introduce the show featuring Curry, "We'll Meet Again" executive producer Justine Kershaw and series participants Reiko Nagumo and Mary Peters. The two reunited after meeting as children in elementary school during Japanese opposition during World War II. Nagumo, a Japanese American was befriended by Peters at a time when Japanese were taken to camps during the war.

Nagumo felt the need to find her friend to let her know how important her friendship meant to her. She had been looking for her friend Mary Frances.

For Curry, who has a long journalistic history most recognizably with NBC, welcomes the series as a chance to tell untold stories her way.

"I was looking for a wonderful way to do meaningful journalism...a way to look at history through eyes that we don't normally see," Curry said at the press tour panel. "We look a lot that history through our leaders and their legacy but it's nice to see to through the eyes of those who lived it, who couldn't control what was happened to them."

"We'll Meet Again"  -- From a Vietnam War baby desperate to find the American father she last saw 40 years ago to the military chaplain who helped a stranger through the trauma of 9/11, from a Japanese-American girl interned in 1942 who never forgot the classmate who helped her during her darkest hours to civil rights workers whose lives were forever changed by the deep relationships they formed in the 1960s South, "We'll Meet Again," brings together people whose lives intersected during turbulent times. With stories of courage, hope, survival, and love, "We'll Meet Again" reveals the powerful bonds forged among people who now, against the odds, reunite with those who transformed their lives.

For Curry, this interviewing technique in the series gave her chance to be independent, which she describes as delicious.
"It's has been interesting to be independent because you get to do what you really want to do," Curry said. "How do you say no to stories about real people who have experienced events, how they were affected. It was a great opportunity to help them find the ones who helped them through the touch times."

Look for "We'll Meet Again" in the Winter 2018 on PBS.

'The Bold and the Beautiful' delivers powerful 'Don't Text and Drive' message

(L-R): Grossbeck, Turpel and Lang
Photo: CBS
CBS's Emmy-winning Daytime drama "The Bold and the Beautiful" took a stand today to address the growing problem of distracted driving—which includes but not limited to texting while driving and taking your eyes off of the road for even a second -- something millions of people are guilty of doing each day.

On Thursday, July 27 episode of "The Bold and the Beautiful," Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) shares a scene with her teenage son R.J. (Anthony Turpel), and his girlfriend Coco (Courtney Grosbeck) to reiterate why texting and driving should never go together. In an earlier episode, R.J. took Coco for a joyride in his father Ridge's (Thorsten Kaye) car. When Coco took the wheel and simultaneously sent a text message, the teen couple got into a near fatal car accident.

The show has tackled social issues story lines head-on since its 1987 debut including homelessness and poverty, transgender awareness, Alzheimer's disease and domestic abuse to name a few. This current issue of texting while driving is topical and something happening daily.

"'The Bold and the Beautiful' has been weaving socially conscious issues into the fabric of our storyline since our debut in 1987," said Head Writer and Executive Producer Bradley Bell. "Texting while driving is a serious and problematic trend that is on the rise, not just with millennials, but also with adults. We thought that the time was right to share this impactful story and the possible consequences distracted driving may have with our viewers."

In the episode, Brooke tells RJ and Coco that "It only takes three seconds to lose control. I don't know what I'd ever do without you if something happened to you, so just please be careful...". She reminds them how lucky they are to be alive. The message made an impact and the show concluded the episode with a PSA from Lang about the dangers of distracted driving."

Viewers can help the cause by visiting the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to learn more about the dangers of distracted driving.

"The Bold and the Beautiful" airs weekdays on CBS.

Linkin Park releases statement on Chester Bennington

The band Linkin Park has released a statement regarding the passing of their front man Chester Bennington. Below is the statement via their publicist.

Dear Chester,

Our hearts are broken.   The shockwaves of grief and denial are still sweeping through our family as we come to grips with what has happened.

You touched so many lives, maybe even more than you realized.  In the past few days, we’ve seen an outpouring of love and support, both public and private, from around the world.  Talinda and the family appreciate it, and want the world to know that you were the best husband, son, and father; the family will never be whole without you.

Talking with you about the years ahead together, your excitement was infectious.  Your absence leaves a void that can never be filled—a boisterous, funny, ambitious, creative, kind, generous voice in the room is missing.  We’re trying to remind ourselves that the demons who took you away from us were always part of the deal.  After all, it was the way you sang about those demons that made everyone fall in love with you in the first place.  You fearlessly put them on display, and in doing so, brought us together and taught us to be more human.  You had the biggest heart, and managed to wear it on your sleeve.

Our love for making and performing music is inextinguishable.  While we don’t know what path our future may take, we know that each of our lives was made better by you.  Thank you for that gift.  We love you, and miss you so much.

Until we see you again,
LP
