LINE Webtoon teams up with Common for 'Caster'

December 30, 2017

LINE Webtoon (http://www.webtoons.com), the popular digital comics publisher pioneering the development and distribution of comics worldwide, today announced the development of ‘Caster,’ an original multi-media comic series created by the team at Noble Transmission and featuring an original song and score from Oscar-Winning Artist and Actor, Common.

"Caster" follows the adventures of a world traveling rare antiques dealer who gets caught up in a world of international espionage. The series will be featured exclusively on LINE Webtoon and is scheduled to debut in early 2018.

‘Caster’ is an original concept created by the team at Noble Transmission, with story by Austin Harrison (Wild Blue Yonder), Zach Howard (Wild Blue Yonder,TMNT, The Cape), and Mike Raicht (Wild Blue Yonder, The Stuff of Legend,). Comic book artist Jason Masters, whose recent credits include Dynamite’s critically acclaimed James Bond with writer Warren Ellis and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, is developing art for the series with scripts by Mike Raicht.

“It is an honor to work with the entire team on Caster and see this character come to life with such passion and energy. LINE Webtoon is a great partner, and we are thrilled to see Caster transmit through the digital comic book medium for a global audience”, said Austin Harrison, CEO of Noble Transmission.
The creative team has partnered with Freedom Road Productions, led by Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone to produce the project including an original score and new song by musician, actor and Academy Award, Grammy, and Emmy-winning composer Common (Selma, 13th, John Wick 2).

Common is also attached to star as the title character and G-BASE, Gerard Butler and Alan Siegel’s production company (Law Abiding Citizen, Olympus Has Fallen, Den of Thieves) is also on board to produce.

“The moment I learned about Caster I knew the story was something special. The main character resonated with me instantly and I jumped at the chance to bring the comic to life in a more complex way through music,” said Common.

Caster follows its title character, a world-traveling rare antiquities dealer just looking for his next payday, whose lifestyle leads him to get caught up in a world of international espionage. A man of exotic taste, Caster is addicted to one thing: risk. However, to some, his appeal exists not because of his lifestyle, but because he truly cares about making sure the rare antiques he chases end up in the hands of a passionate buyer. He respects art and expects others to as well. No museums though. He needs to get paid!

“We are incredibly excited to premiere this groundbreaking digital comic project and have Common on board to help bring an exciting music dimension,” said Junkoo Kim, Founder and Head of LINE Webtoon. “The team at Noble Transmission is pioneering a new way to experience comics with their top-notch work and we are confident that readers will love the way Common’s music blends with their immersive storytelling.”

Singer Carly Rae Jepsen will perform at the Carnival Splendor in February 2018, as part of the Carnival LIVE Concert Series. The concert marks the first time the cruise line is collaborating with Universal Music Group and Brands (UMGB) and Universal Music Group.

While the concert is a departure from previous Carnival LIVE performances in that it is free and open to all guests sailing on Carnival Splendor's February 17, 2018, seven-day voyage, it continues the line's mission of bringing the best in live entertainment to the seas and providing guests an opportunity to enjoy captivating performances by top artists in a memorable setting.

FX picks up Ryan Murphy's latest 'Pose' to series

December 27, 2017
FX has ordered "Pose," a new dance musical series from Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson and Brad Falchuk, it was announced today by John Landgraf, CEO, FX Networks and FX Productions.

The history-making Pose will feature the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles and the largest recurring LGBTQ cast ever for a scripted television series.

"Pose" was written by co-creators and executive producers Murphy, Falchuk and Steven Canals, with Murphy directing the first two episodes. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson also serve as executive producers alongside fellow executive producers Alexis Martin Woodall, Sherry Marsh and Erica Kaye. Janet Mock and Our Lady J will also serve as producers. The series is produced by Fox 21 Television Studios and FX Productions.

Murphy said, "I am thrilled to join forces with John Landgraf and FX Networks and FXP and Dana Walden, Gary Newman and Fox 21 Television Studios to present what I think is a game changer of a show, which at its heart is an uplifting series about the universal quest for identity, family and respect. Along with being a dance musical and an affirming look at American life in the 1980s, I'm so proud that "Pose" and FX has made history right from the beginning by featuring the most trans series regular actors ever in an American television production.

Additionally, the first season "Pose" will feature 50-plus LGBTQ characters - a record in American television history. I can't wait for people to see this incredibly talented, passionate cast."

Set in the 1980s, "Pose" looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in New York: the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world.

"In the 15 years we've worked with Ryan, he has demonstrated time and again that every person's story is joyful, illuminating, and must to be told," said Landgraf. "With Pose, Ryan, and his producing partners Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Brad Falchuk and Steven Canals, introduce us to a new group of characters whose talent, life force, and self-made community is greater than the daunting obstacles created by a society that can be threatened by their native identities."

FX has ordered eight episodes for season one of Pose, which is scheduled to begin production in February in New York and premiere on FX in the summer of 2018.

"A decade ago, Ryan brought us the groundbreaking pilot script for Glee, a show that celebrated underdogs, proudly showcased a completely diverse cast of unknown actors and led the way for new norms of inclusion and diversity on television," commented FTG Chairman and CEOs Dana Walden and Gary Newman. "In Pose, Ryan has again, with his gifted collaborators, placed a spotlight on people who have been marginalized in society, bringing together emotional stories and a hugely talented cast in an inspirational series."
Evan Peters (American Horror Story, the X-Men franchise) and Kate Mara (American Horror Story, House of Cards) play New Jersey couple "Stan" and "Patty," who get sucked into the glamour and intrigue of New York City in the 1980s. James Van Der Beek (Dawson's Creek, What Would Diplo Do?) plays Peters' financial kingpin boss "Matt."

After a six-month nationwide search helmed by casting director Alexa Fogel (Atlanta), Murphy and his collaborators are making television history by assembling the largest cast of transgender actors in series regular roles ever for a scripted series. The transgender cast includes MJ Rodriguez, Dominique Jackson, Indya Moore, Hailie Sahar and Anjelica Ross. Also co-starring are Tony Award(R) winner Billy Porter as well as newcomers Ryan Jamall Swain and Dyllon Burnside.

In conjunction with Ryan Murphy's Half Initiative, the series will be bringing on emerging transgender directors to be mentored through his Directing Mentorship Program.

"The Voice" Season 13 has their winner. Rocker Chloe Kohanski took home the trophy and the $100,000 prize and a record deal thanks to her powerhouse vocals and the skills of her coach, six-time "The Voice" winner Blake Shelton.

Shelton has won the competition six times, more than any other coach in the show's history. Despite his wins, teaming with Shelton seemed odd on paper for Kohanski but in the end, she was right where she needed to be.

"When she was on that stage she knows what she wants to be and what she wants to look like," Shelton said of Kohanski's popularity with the audience week after week. "I mean we've seen that. She was at a very different level of thinking than I've worked with on this show. Every time she walked out onto that stage in the last few weeks I'm like "Whoa, look at that hair. Look at that outfit." She's keeping us engaged. She is keeping people excited. She's keeping people guessing.

Of Shelton's support, Kohanski said "This is just a catapult into what is hopefully a very creative process for me as an artist and working with Blake. I'm very excited."

The Nashville native beat out fellow Team Blake member Red Marlow, who finished in 4th place, Brooke Simpson of Team Miley who landed in third place and runner-up Team Adam's Addison Agen.

The star-studded evening featured performances by Bastille, Vince Gill, Jessie J, Norah Jones, Bebe Rexha, Sia and last year’s Voice winner Chris Blue who was introduced by his coach Alicia Keyes who returns to the coaches chair for Season 14 alongside Shelton, Adam Levine and new coach Kelly Clarkson.

Kohanski was paired up with one of her idols, rock legend Billy Idol, to perform his classic hit “White Wedding."

Kohanski was once of the few Season 13 contestants who had a constant presence on the iTunes chart with her renditions of

'Chicago P.D.' gets syndication for 2018

Chicago P.D. is heading into syndication. The show will air Monday-Friday in national syndication beginning September 2018. The one-hour drama is the second installment in the Chicago franchise. "Chicago P.D." is a riveting police drama about the men and women of the Chicago Police Department's elite Intelligence Unit. The Intelligence Unit combats the city's most heinous offenses: organized crime, drug trafficking, high-profile murders and beyond.

"Chicago P.D." is set to air Monday-Friday on local broadcast stations including FOX owned and operated stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Washington D.C., Houston, Phoenix, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Orlando and Charlotte, among many others.

"We are thrilled to bring another Dick Wolf hit to the broadcast marketplace," said O'Boyle. "Chicago P.D is a premiere procedural and is a unique opportunity for local broadcasters, as it is the only off-net scripted hour available to play as a Monday-Friday strip. This series will strengthen our partner stations' programming schedules the same way the 'Law & Order' franchise has done over the years."

"Chicago P.D." was created by multiple Emmy Award winner Dick Wolf ("Chicago" franchise, "Law & Order" branded series) and Matt Olmstead ("NYPD Blue," Prison Break," "Chicago" franchise shows) and developed by Derek Haas ("Chicago Fire," "3:10 to Yuma") and Michael Brandt ("Chicago" franchise shows.") In addition to Wolf and Haas, executive producers include Rick Eid ("Law & Order: SVU," "Hostages,") Peter Jankowski ("Law & Order" branded series, "Chicago" franchise shows,) Arthur Forney ("Law& Order: SVU," "Chicago" franchise shows) and Terry Miller ("Burn Notice.") "Chicago P.D." is produced by Wolf Entertainment in association with Universal Television and is distributed in the U.S. and Canada by NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution.

About Chicago P.D.:

Det. Sgt. Hank Voight (Jason Beghe) and his intelligence team have always considered rules to be guidelines more than actual laws. Their goal has always been to protect their great city and they have used unique ways to help bring criminals to justice. Now it's a new day and age in Chicago. Police are under siege and under a microscope - everyone from the federal government to politicians and citizens in their own city are watching. The intelligence team will feel the pressure, and their form of justice will be questioned and challenged. Today, Chicago is a unique place to be part of the police department. Political and social agendas play key roles in how police function. Racial tensions, agendas of individual politicians, new federal regulations and other issues will be addressed this season. With police reform in full swing, the team is going to be forced to find new ways to achieve their ultimate goal: Justice. The cast includes Jon Seda ("Chicago" franchise, "Treme"), Sophia Bush ("One Tree Hill"), Jesse Lee Soffer ("Chicago" franchise, "Mob Doctor"), Patrick John Flueger ("The 4400," "Scoundrels"), Marina Squerciati ("Chicago" franchise, "Marshall," "Gossip Girl"), Elias Koteas ("The Killing," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"), LaRoyce Hawkins ("Chicago" franchise), Amy Morton ("Chicago" franchise, "Boss," "Blue Bloods"), and Tracy Spiridakos ("MacGyver," "Bates Motel," "Revolution").
