'Timeless': fan favorite series gets 2 hour Finale

July 31, 2018
"Timeless" fans rejoice! NBC and Sony Pictures Television are collaborating on a two-part “Timeless” finale to air during the holidays, giving closure to the globetrotting series that has generated incredible viewer passion.

According to executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, audiences can expect the “Timeless” they know and love. A focus on the unsung and underrepresented people of history. And most importantly, one final emotional story for the Time Team.

“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of ‘Timeless,’ this is the next best thing,” said Ryan and Kripke. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

"Timeless" tells the stories of Lucy, Wyatt and Rufus who travel through time to save the events that are destined to change history. In doing so, Lucy, a historian, Wyatt, a soldier, and Rufus, a scientist, unite to form an unlikely partnership and share a common goal, to defeat Rittenhouse.

The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnjić, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit.

Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke are the creators, writers and executive producers. Tom Smuts and Arika Lisanne Mittman are co-showrunners and executive producers. Don Kurt, Greg Beeman, John Davis, John Fox and Marney Hochman also executive produce.

“Timeless” is a production of Sony Pictures Television, Davis Entertainment, MiddKid Productions and Kripke Enterprises.

'Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr' Season 5 premieres January 8 on PBS

Title card from the second season of "Finding Your Roots".jpgThe popular DNA culture series "Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates Jr." will premiere an all-new ten-episode season beginning Tuesdays, beginning January 8, 2019 at 8:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS.

This season features an array of celebrated guests who are cultural trailblazers with fascinating family stories, including Academy Award winner Marisa Tomei; Emmy and Golden Globe Award winners Felicity Huffman, Laura Linney and S. Epatha Merkerson; and actors Michael K. Williams, Andy Samberg, Chloe Sevigny and Kal Penn. Season Five also includes superstar author George R.R. Martin; acclaimed journalists Christiane Amanpour, Ann Curry, Joe Madison and Lisa Ling; bestselling author and Facebook executive Sheryl Sandberg; TV hosts Seth Meyers and Michael Strahan; artists Marina Abramovic and Kehinde Wiley; politicians Marco Rubio, Tulsi Gabbard and Paul Ryan; Academy Award-winning filmmakers Alejandro Innaritu and Michael Moore; and comedians Tig Notaro and Sarah Silverman.

At the center of it all, guiding every discovery, is host and executive producer Henry Louis Gates, Jr., the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor at Harvard University and director of the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research. "I find it inspiring that our fellow Americans are so determined to explore their own ancestral heritage," said Gates, "precisely at a time when immigration has become such a deeply controversial and sensitive matter. Our series demonstrates each week, in vivid detail and with moving storytelling, that a continuing source of strength for our country is the fact that we are a nation of immigrants. That we can serve as both guide and inspiration to the splendidly exciting pleasure of finding one's roots is an immense honor. I believe that the more each of us understands about where we came from, about what our ancestors experienced, and how those experiences have shaped us, whether we knew about them or not, the more richly we can live our lives."

Assembling the extensive family trees and family narratives alongside Dr. Gates are DNA expert CeCe Moore (Founder, The DNA Detective) and expert genealogist Johni Cerny (Founder, Lineages).

PBS's 'The Great American Read': vote on your favorite novel from The Top 100 List

PBS is working to encourage America to read books. The network this April launched "The Great American Read." The show is asking people across the country to read, vote and share in the first-ever national campaign to choose “America’s Best-Loved Novel.” In addition to the nationwide reading campaign, the eight-part television series returns to PBS stations on Tuesday, September 11 at 8:00 p.m. ET (check local listings).

The campaign encompasses a wide range of community engagement activities, as well as digital and social initiatives, all leading up to an exciting finale airing Tuesday, October 23 at 8:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS stations. Meredith Viera serves as the project's host.

Titles included on the top 100 list of America’s favorite novels run the gamut from modern-day pop-culture hits to beloved children’s classics that have stood the test of time; from science fiction adventures to historic literature written hundreds of years ago; from thrillers that keep us on the edge of our seats to complex personal journeys that raise challenging social issues.

"The Great American Read" is one of the most extensive national celebrations of books ever, and it’s just getting started. To date, almost 2 million votes have been cast in America’s search for its “Best-Loved Novel.”

Viewers are currently able to vote for their favorite titles at pbs.org/greatamericanread, through hashtag voting via Facebook and Twitter, and through SMS texting using the dedicated book hashtag that can be found here. In the fall, viewers will also be able to cast their vote toll-free by phone.
"The Great American Read" collection is currently available on PBS LearningMedia. In addition, this fall, PBS Digital Innovators will host three Virtual Professional Learning Events for teachers, PBS Education will host a similar event aimed at educators of early childhood learners and PBS TeacherLine will offer several courses for early childhood educators who teach young readers.

To complement "The Great American Read" PBS KIDS is hosting “PBS KIDS Read” as part of the annual summer learning initiative for children ages 2-8 and their families. Available on PBS Parents, “PBS KIDS Read” encourages reading and related activities through a variety of resources for kids and parents, including book lists, tips for new readers and other literacy resources.

"The Great American Read" is a production of Nutopia for PBS. The program is executive produced by Jane Root, Michael Cascio, Bob Kirsh and Charles Marquardt; co-executive produced by Rebecca Ratliff Cameron; line produced by Rachael Jerahian; and produced by Nilam Agrawal-Desai, Katherine Linton, Kate Chumley, Justine Simonson, Michelle Smawley, Siobhan Lockhart, Annie Wong and Tomek Gross. Bill Gardner, Vice President of Programming and Development, is executive in charge for PBS, and Bethany Latham is project director.

Amplifying the on-air and online series content will be a fully illustrated companion book, The Great American Read: The Book of Books, which will include information about the 100 novels, author profiles, rare images of original manuscripts and more, plus a foreword by "The Great American Read" host Meredith Vieira, to be published by Black Dog & Leventhal and made available on Tuesday, August 21.

The fifth studio album from J. Cole, KOD follows his critically acclaimed, platinum-selling 2016 album 4 Your Eyez Only. In the week ending April 26, KOD sold 397k equivalent album units, while its songs amassed 322 million audio streams. That makes J. Cole only the third artist in history to surpass 300 million audio streams in its debut week—an achievement that's especially remarkable considering that KOD only contains 12 songs.

A North Carolina native, J. Cole was the first artist signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label, which released his official debut Cole World: The Sideline Story in 2011. To date, he's received five Grammy Award nominations, including Best New Artist and Best Rap Album (for 2014's 2014 Forest Hills Drive). Arriving in December 2016, 4 Your Eyez Only debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and gained acclaim from outlets like the New York Times (who praised it as "spartan but sumptuous, emotionally acute but plain-spoken…one of the year's most finely drawn [albums]"). 4 Your Eyez Only was J. Cole's first release for Dreamville, the label he launched in 2007. Like all of J. Cole's first four albums, it's certified platinum.

Young Thug is a rapper and fashion icon who defies borders. He has close to 11 million monthly listeners on Spotify and his projects are critically acclaimed (4 received scores of 8 or higher on Pitchfork). Thug recently released his mixtape Super Slimy with Future and scored his first Billboard No. 1 on Camila Cabello's 'Havana'.
