J Balvin and Bad Bunny Release New Collaborative Album 'OASIS'

June 30, 2019
Music Artists J Balvin and Bad Bunny released their collaborative album "OASIS." The eight-song release features the single "Qué Pretendes."

"Oasis is a transcendental and refreshing album; it is a rescue, a relief. An Oasis helps you to supply yourself with what you're missing and to find what you lack spiritually; this is what this album represents. We have been working on it for a long time, and finally, we found its moment. Working with J Balvin has undoubtedly been an unparalleled experience, I have always admired and respected him a lot and we have had an excellent vibe throughout this whole process." – Bad Bunny

"I am proud to say I LOVE Bad Bunny; we always seem to be on the same wavelength, as he likes what I like. He is also all about celebrating our culture, while remaining super humble. Working with Benito again has been a musical joy. I am blessed to not only call him my brother, but now a partner on an album that has even become a personal Oasis. I've been traveling all over the world the last few months, and anytime it started to feel overwhelming, I've been able to listen to the tracks we created, and instantly return 'Home' to our own musical paradise. I'm so glad the time has arrived where fans can now share those same new vibes with us." – J Balvin

Watch: 'Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am' Trailer (Video)

Check out a look at the Toni Morrison documentary called
"Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am" in theaters now.

"Toni Morrison: The Pieces I Am" offers an artful and intimate meditation on the life and works of the legendary storyteller and Nobel prize-winner. From her childhood in the steel town of Lorain, Ohio to ‘70s-era book tours with Muhammad Ali, from the front lines with Angela Davis to her own riverfront writing room, Toni Morrison leads an assembly of her peers, critics and colleagues on an exploration of race, America, history and the human condition as seen through the prism of her own literature. Inspired to write because no one took a “little black girl” seriously, Morrison reflects on her lifelong deconstruction of the master narrative. Woven together with a rich collection of art, history, literature and personality, the film includes discussions about her many critically acclaimed works, including novels “The Bluest Eye,” “Sula” and “Song of Solomon,” her role as an editor of iconic African-American literature and her time teaching at Princeton University.

'One Day at a Time' Season 4 Gets a Home on POP TV

Pop TV is saving "One Day at a Time." The critically-acclaimed series will continue with a new 13-episode fourth season premiering in 2020. The Network shared the news amid fan campaigns rallying behind the series. Produced by Sony Pictures Television, the fourth season of "One Day at a Time" will air exclusively on Pop.

"One Day at a Time,"  the comedy-drama inspired by Norman Lear's 1975 series of the same name, follows the life of Penelope Alvarez (Screen Actors Guild Award® winner Justina Machado), a newly single Army veteran, and her Cuban-American family, as they navigate the ups and downs of life. Now a nurse practitioner, Penelope is raising two strong-willed children. When faced with challenges, Penelope turns to her "old-school" mother Lydia (Emmy®, Grammy®, Oscar® and Tony® winner Rita Moreno), and her building manager Schneider (Todd Grinnell), who has become an invaluable confidant. The series offers a contemporary take on what life looks like in both good and bad times, and how loved ones can help make it all worthwhile. The series also stars Isabella Gomez as Elena Alvarez, Marcel Ruiz as Alex Alvarez and Stephen Tobolowsky as Dr. Berkowitz.

“Three months ago, I was heartbroken with the news of our beloved One Day At A Time’s cancellation. Today, I’m overwhelmed with joy to know the Alvarez family will live on,” said executive producer Norman Lear. “Thank you to my producing partner, Brent Miller, our incredibly talented co-showrunners, Mike Royce and Gloria Calderón Kellett, and of course, Sony, for never once giving up on the show, our actors or the possibility that a cable network could finally save a cancelled series that originated on a streaming service.  And one last thank you to, Pop, for having the guts to be that first cable network.  Even this I get to experience – at 96.”

As part of the innovative deal to pick up the new season, ONE DAY AT A TIME will also be broadcast on the CBS Television Network later in 2020, following its run on Pop. CBS was the home of the original series that aired over 40 years ago.

TV One's 'The Bobby DeBarge Story' - Everything to Know About the Music

June 26, 2019
Rashon Fegan as Bobby DeBarge in "The Bobby DeBarge Story"
Photo: TV One
On June 29, TV One will air the original movie, "The Bobby DeBarge Story," a personal look into the life of the eldest member of the DeBarge Musical Family who was part of the 70s R & B band, "Switch."  The movie stars Roshon Fegan as Bobby DeBarge.

Any story of the man behind such hits that are considered R & B classics today must include the music.  The band, with members Bobby and Tommy DeBarge, Phillip Ingram, Greg Williams, Eddie Fluellen, and Jody Sims had a string of hits in the 70s - "I Call Your Name," "Love Me Over and Over Again" and "There'll Never Be."

With "The Bobby DeBarge Story" premiering this weekend, TVMusic Network caught up with film producer James Sepplefrick to find out the songs used in the movie.

Check it out below:

Just how much of the catalog will we actually see? There are so many songs. Did you have access to them? With that wealth of material, what did you get a chance to put into the script?

James Sepplefrick: So, so we really tried to obviously, um, we have financial constraints in the budget that we have. So yes, we had access to the music and the choice selections were, “I Call Your Name,” by Switch. And “I Like It” by DeBarge.

The song that they sing to Barry Gordy to showcase their talents is an original song, that we created because the songs that they did in that showcase aren't songs weren’t ever released. Those are the two main focal points of the songs. We flirted with using “Dance The Night Away” and we're still kind of figuring that part out. Our big performance pieces are, “I Call Your Name” and “I Like It.”

So a one Switch song and one DeBarge Song, that were the two turning points of the film. One kind of opens the film and gets us going. And then one is the upturn of the DeBarge family versus the downturn of Bobby. Those are the two elements that we used, but we had access to all the songs. Just can't say that we could have afforded a whole lot more than that. So it really came down to economics as to what we had access to.

About the original song, how was that song shaped to reflect the era of the time to sound like DeBarge, Bobby did you work to make the song feel like a DeBarge song and have it reflect the time period?
James Sepplefrick: Well, yeah, and it's very difficult. The person who plays El is a singer and his name is Bruno Rose. When he got the part, he had a producer who worked with him named Dante Wyatt. He was able to produce…they just kind of collaborated and worked together to make a song that we believe fits the period and the time and I think they did a great job. I will obviously hear about it and people get to hear it. Um, but we believe we, uh, they put together a song that that really fits for the scene and fits the moment of the rise of El and the DeBarge family.

Catch "The Bobby DeBarge Story" airing Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on TV One.
